How To Decide Who To Invite – Narrowing Down The Guest List
Part of planning a wedding means dealing with the stress of the guest list. No one really wants to neglect his or her long lost friend from high school. However, the more people you invite, the more money you have to pay out of your pocket. And, there are also other issues like limited space. So, coming up with the perfect guest list for your wedding might take a little time and some strategy. However, it is possible.
First, you have to determine who can actually come. You might be inviting a bunch of relatives that live out of town and will not be able to make it. In a few calls, you could narrow down your list by 20 people if this is the case. Also, make a list of “maybes” in case people change their mind. Second, consider whom you must have at your wedding. These people probably include your family and close friends. Last, start making your list from the inner circle and then add from there.
Remember this is your day. You should never feel obligated to invite anyone just because you knew him or her a few years ago or your dad used to work with him or her. Spend the day with the people that you care about.
Be Sure To Have Guests RSVP
When you send out invitations to your wedding, there is no way to determine how many people will actually attend unless you have them RVSP. If you wanted to, you could call the list of invites you sent out, but that would be time consuming and a little bit tacky. You could also determine a ballpark figure. Or, you could include a stamped, addressed postcard in the invitation that asks for their RSVP. When your invitees receive this, all they have to do is check yes or no and put it back in the mail. Although the added postage may seem costly when your budget is already tight, it will most likely save you money in the long run.
Part of planning the wedding involves knowing the guest count. The more accurate you can be, the better it will be for cost purposes. This is particularly important when it comes to renting chairs and tables.
Also, consider how helpful it will be to know the number of guests when you are determining the food. You will not have to worry about running out of food or paying for too much. So, get an RVSP card that matches your invitation. You will be so glad that you did.
Save the Date Cards Keep Your Guests In the Loop
Save the Date Cards are a recent trend which has become chic because of the popularity of destination weddings. It seems that a simple invitation card wouldn’t be enough for such instances, as a destination wedding entails a lot of preparation, both for the couple and the guests. This shouldn’t mean that Save the Date cards are restricted only to such events; even if you are having your wedding in your backyard, sending out Save the Date cards informs the guest about the details of your wedding which the cramped space of an invitation card wouldn’t allow you to provide.
