The Do-It-Yourself Wedding Invitations
Wedding invitations should be elegant and distinctive. Contrary to popular opinion, though, wedding invitations need not be expensive to be elegant. You only need to have a little imagination, a bit of a creative flair and you can have the most unique and elegant wedding invitations.
Making Your Own Wedding Invitations
All you need to make your own wedding invitations is a computer, some gorgeous fonts and design and a color printer. You will also need hard stock paper for your invitation cover, some fine paper to print on, and some trimmings like ribbons and beads to accentuate the design.
First of all, shop for your papers. Paper of all types and design abound and you can easily find them in your school supplies store. For more distinctive designs, you can try going to a stationery or specialty shop.
For the hard stock paper, the popular choices are metallic cardboard papers, handmade papers with bits and pieces of leaves and flowers embedded, and cardboard paper printed with different patterns and designs. There are a lot of colors and textures to choose from so you’ll have no trouble picking the best one.
For the overlaying paper where the text will be printed, it will be better to choose fine, sheer paper that will let the color and design of the hard stock paper through. You can also choose one that provides a good contrast to your cardboard base. It’s your choice.
After you have made your paper selections, print out your invitations on the overlay. For your wedding invitations to be harmonious and elegant, you must choose one main font and maybe one or two complementing fonts. Do not go overboard and choose a different font for every line; the less font type you use, the better. The colors of the ink you use for printing should also be chosen with an eye on the overall wedding invitation color scheme. Add some graphics, maybe a picture of you and your partner.
After you have the overlays ready, attach them to your base paper. A good idea would be to punch two miniature holes near the top of the base and the overlay paper and thread a thin shimmering piece of ribbon through these holes and make a cute little bow. Another way of accomplishing this would be to glue the edges of your overlay to the base and follow the edges around with a dainty ribbon, beads, thin twine, or bits of dried leaves and flowers to disguise the glue marks. The possibilities are endless; just use your imagination and your guests will be duly impressed while your budget is saved.
